11 Mar 23 — time for a quickie?
“Time for a quickie?” I wish I could speak Peregrine… It feels like that’s what Azina told Tom this afternoon as within seconds he was off the eggs and joined her on the corner to mate 😉
Tom brings food to Azina in the box this morning. I love how their departures are perfectly synchronised!
Two quiet days but very different. Yesterday Tom did little incubation (just under two hours). Today he did the most he’s done in a day so far this year with over five hours in two shifts. Today Azina did her longest day shift with seven hours on the trot.
About two thirds of the way through now…
Dramatic scene at the hospital this morning! If you look very closely the pigeon gets away from Tom and will have learned not to play with fire hopefully!
Chick #3 is two weeks old today!

Chick #2 didn’t follow in chick #1’s footsteps and hasn’t stood up today. Chick #1 is a bit more steady on its feet.

There were five feeds today, most of them quite long. Pigeon was on the menu for all of them.
Azina spent the night in the box with the chicks but she wasn’t brooding them. She brooded them a couple of times in the morning but on the whole the chicks were left on their own for most of the day. Except for feeds (which amounted to 2 1/2 hours in total)

To finish, it can happen to the best of them! Azina has an off moment this morning…
Shots for today:
I have some bad news. Last night Chick #1 started taking a turn for the worse. It wasn’t any better this morning. We put plans in place to have it picked up and checked at ringing tomorrow morning. But sadly it died at 1pm today.
Fly free little one!
Sometimes the begging works 😉 But it can be quite tough getting up when you’ve been lying down for nearly six hours…
Very quiet day today. Tom did three shifts totalling 3hr44 which is average. Azina did two day shifts and the night shifts. At the end of the day she’ll have incubated for 19hr16. The eggs were not left alone for one second 🙂
