6 Mar 23 — Synchronised take offs
Tom brings food to Azina in the box this morning. I love how their departures are perfectly synchronised!
Two things today: first the chicks spent most of the night on their own and second chick #1 stood up and did a few steps for the first time.
The chicks were also left on their own for most of the day though Azina did come and brood them from time to time.
There were seven feeds, usually not very long except for one that lasted 40 minutes. Only pigeon on the menu.
Maybe tomorrow chick #2 will also stand up? Maybe chick #1 will decide to explore a bit more?
Shots for today:
Around 4pm Tom brought in a Collared Dove. He quickly took it away since Azina wasn’t interested in grabbing it.
This is the first time I record one as prey here. I have not seen one in Fulham (or Hammersmith) yet. I suspect he may have caught it in Barnes, and even there I don’t know that they are that common.
I have some bad news. Last night Chick #1 started taking a turn for the worse. It wasn’t any better this morning. We put plans in place to have it picked up and checked at ringing tomorrow morning. But sadly it died at 1pm today.
Fly free little one!
A few shots from today.
I was a bit off in my estimation for the egg laying time. Azina got up and settled in egg laying position a few times in the night but it’s when Tom came in with food that she finally laid it, 61hr11m after the second one.
I think they’ve started incubating in earnest now and Azina hasn’t let Tom do much of it.
I expect the fourth, and presumably last, egg to come Sunday afternoon/early evening.
Not so many shots today as the chicks spent a lot of their time sleeping on the ledge in a spot hidden on both cameras.
Chick #2 has discovered its wings 🙂
Chick #3 is now quite steady on its feet.
Chick #1 spent time sleeping sitting up.
There were only four feeds, the first one not being before 8am (it’s usually around 6am) but the last one was a double feed lasting nearly one hour. Starling and Pigeon on the menu again today.

Shots from the last few days, including of the first egg today.
